✅ What it is
-
Daktarin Powder is a topical antifungal powder whose active ingredient is Miconazole Nitrate (2% w/w).
-
The powder formulation (rather than cream or lotion) helps keep skin dry, which is useful for sweaty or moist areas where fungal infections thrive — e.g. feet, groin, skin folds, armpits.
🩺 What it’s used for (Indications)
Daktarin Powder is indicated for various skin fungal or yeast infections, including:
-
Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis)
-
Ringworm / fungal skin infections (tinea corporis)
-
Jock itch (tinea cruris) / fungal infections in groin or skin‑fold areas
-
Intertrigo or yeast/fungal infections in damp skin areas (e.g. under breasts, between toes, diaper rash in infants)
-
It may also help prevent recurrence — e.g. dusting inside socks or shoes after fungal foot infection — because its drying effect limits fungus‑friendly moisture.
⚙️ How it works
-
Miconazole nitrate works by disrupting the fungal cell membrane — interfering with ergosterol production (a key membrane component for fungi), causing the membrane to lose integrity and leading to fungal cell death.
-
As a powder, Daktarin also helps absorb moisture and reduce dampness — creating an environment less favorable for fungi.
📝 How to use
-
Use only on clean, dry skin. Wash and dry the area thoroughly before application.
-
Apply a thin layer of the powder to the affected area once or twice daily.
-
Continue use for some time (e.g. 10 days) after visible symptoms disappear, to reduce risk of recurrence.
-
For prevention (e.g. in shoes, socks, or damp-prone areas), dusting a small amount can help maintain dryness and reduce fungal growth risk.
⚠️ Warnings, Limitations & Side‑Effects
-
External use only — do not apply on mucous membranes, inside mouth/nose, or near eyes.
-
Because it contains talc, avoid inhaling the powder — this is especially important for children and infants.
-
Not suitable for nail or scalp fungal infections — Daktarin Powder is indicated only for skin surface fungal (and some bacterial) infections.
-
Possible local reactions: skin irritation, redness, itching, burning, rash, allergic reactions (rarely anaphylaxis). If these occur, stop use and seek medical advice.
-
Contraindicated if you have known allergy to miconazole or imidazole‑class antifungals
